Signs you need a hearing test

Difficulty hearing the TV clearly

You may find the sound unclear, often turning the volume up or using the subtitles. Also, friends and family comment that the TV is loud.

Trouble hearing phone conversations

You struggle to follow conversations on the phone, asking people to repeat. You may turn the volume up or use loudspeaker to hear better.

Difficulty hearing in noisy places

You have difficulty understanding or following a conversation in noisy environments such as cafes and restaurants.

Asking people to repeat

You may feel like others are mumbling or not speaking clearly, leading you to frequently ask them to repeat themselves.

Really can't praise this service enough. Ibrahim is the most charming and professional young man. I had to have a home visit due to being on oxygen full time as it makes everything easier for me. So easy to book, communication fantastic and outcome just perfect. Highly recommend Direct Ear Care - Ear Wax Removal.

Ibrahim came to the home where my elderly father resides. He was polite thoughtful helpful and thorough. He did a fantastic job and explained the procedure and the outcome at every stage speaking respectfully to my father to ensure he understood too. We will definitely use his services again and thoroughly recommend him.

Do I need a GP referral for a home hearing test?

No, you do not need a GP referral. You can book directly with us.

The appointment takes approximately 60–75 minutes. During this time, we will discuss your concerns, assess your hearing, and explore potential tailored solutions. We never rush our appointments, ensuring you feel informed and supported.

Yes, a home hearing test is just as accurate. We use the same advanced equipment and follow the same testing procedures as we do in our clinic.

Our home hearing tests are ideal for:

  • Those unable or choosing not to drive.
  • Elderly individuals who would benefit from a home visit.
  • People who are housebound or have a disability that makes travel to a clinic difficult.
  • Individuals with busy schedules who can’t find time to visit our clinic.
  • Anyone who prefers the convenience and comfort of being seen at home.
Yes, we regularly visit care homes to support residents with their hearing needs.
Before conducting the hearing test, the audiologist will examine your ears for any earwax build-up. If a build-up is found that could affect the test, the audiologist can remove it during the appointment. There is a charge of £75 for one or both ears.
Yes, once the hearing test is complete, the audiologist will explain the results to you in detail and provide personalised guidance.
If your hearing loss requires medical attention, we will send a referral letter to your GP with your permission. We follow the British Academy of Audiology referral guidelines to ensure the highest standards of care
If you notice a sudden or gradual change in your hearing, it’s important to have it checked as soon as possible. If you are over 50 or exposed to loud noise, we recommend you get your hearing checked every two years. Regular tests help detect early signs of hearing loss.
