Is ear wax removal painful?
Will I be charged if no ear wax is found?
Yes. If no ear wax is found, a consultation fee of £29 will apply. This includes a free hearing check to assess your child’s ear health.
If your child is unable to stay still enough for us to safely carry out the procedure, we’ll charge a consultation fee. In these cases, we can refer you to a specialist who can perform the procedure under anaesthetic, if necessary.
Do I need a referral from a GP?
No, you can book directly with us. No referral needed.
How long does the appointment take?
The full ear wax removal appointment, including consultation and hearing check, typically takes around 30–45 minutes.
If ear wax is not removed on the same day, is there an extra cost for coming back?
Majority of the time we remove the ear wax on the same day. If your child needs a follow-up appointment, there is no additional charge.
What causes ear wax build-up in children?
Ear wax is a natural substance that protects and cleans the ears. However, in some children, it can build up due to:
- Narrow ear canals – Smaller or curved canals can make it harder for the ear wax to come out naturally.
- Overproduction of ear wax – This can happen in response to irritation or frequent cleaning.
- Using cotton buds or fingers – Trying to remove wax at home can push it deeper into the ear, causing blockage.
- Wearing headphones – These can prevent ear wax from naturally exiting the ear canal and lead to build-up over time.
Too much wax can cause discomfort, muffled hearing, or even affect speech and learning. Our audiologists can assess your child’s ears and remove any blockages gently and safely.
How often should children get ear wax removed?
There’s no fixed schedule; it varies by child. Some may need regular removal, while others don’t. Your audiologist will give personalised advice based on your child’s needs and symptoms.
Can olive oil drops remove earwax?
Olive oil drops can help soften ear wax, making it easier to remove, but it won’t always clear a blockage. For safe and effective results, professional ear wax removal is usually the best option.
How do you take payment?
We accept both cash and card payments with no extra fees.
