Microsuction Ear Wax Removal

WHAT IS IT?

Microsuction ear wax removal is highly effective and safe method for removing ear wax blockages. It involves using a low-pressure machine with a suction tube to gently remove any excess ear wax, debris, and infection in the ear. This procedure is performed by trained healthcare professionals, usually an audiologist, nurse, or ENT doctors who have undergone specialist training. At Direct Ear Care, our audiologists have undertaken the microsuction training and we use this procedure to treat ear wax blockages.
Microsuction will allow you to regain clear hearing and get instant relief from ear wax blockages.

HOW DOES MICROSUCTION EAR WAX REMOVAL WORK ?

During the microsuction appointment with Direct Ear Care, our audiologist will ask several medical questions regarding the health of your ears. This is to make sure the microsuction method is right for you. The clinician will have a look inside your ears with a camera to see the ear wax build-up.
We then place a small plastic cone into your ear canal and use loupes for a clear view of the ear wax, ear canal, and the eardrum. This allows the audiologist to always see what they are doing when removing the ear wax. A low-pressure suction medical machine with a fine sterile tube attached is used to carefully remove the ear wax. Once the procedure is over and we have removed the ear, we will take a picture of your ear and show you the results.

Do I need to soften the ear wax before the microsuction appointment?

For best preparation, we recommend using olive oil drops twice a day for 3 to 4 days before the appointment to soften the ear wax. Softening the ear wax will the removal easier and quicker. We recommend using Earol Olive oil spray, when you use the drops, you will notice a temporary worsening of your hearing or your ears feeling more blocked, this is normal as the ear wax is soaking in the olive oil and it expands.
Avoid using cotton buds, as this will push the ear wax further into the ear canal causing discomfort and making the blockage worse.
