How do we remove ear wax?

At Direct Ear Care, our qualified experienced audiologist uses microsuction which is the safest and most effective procedure to treat ear wax blockages. Microsuction ear wax removal involves using a low-pressure suction medical machine with a fine tube attached, to remove the ear wax. It does not require any water to be squirted in your ear.

What to expect during the ear wax removal appointment?

1. The audiologist will ask medical questions to get a better understanding of the health of your ears.

2. They will have a look inside your ears with a camera to check the health of your ears and to see if there is a build-up of ear wax. They will also show you the inside of your ears and explain it to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you provide home visits outside of Greater Manchester and Lancashire?

Unfortunately no, at the moment we are only covering areas in Greater Manchester and Lancashire.

Does ear wax removal hurt?

Ear wax removal does not hurt, the procedure we use is painless and effective in removing ear wax.

When to have ear wax removal?

We recommend having ear wax removed if you are experiencing one or more of the symptoms of ear wax build-up such as blocked sensation, hearing loss, tinnitus, or earache. We also suggest having the ear wax removed before a hearing test, as it may lead to inaccurate test results.

What to use before my ear wax removal appointment?

We recommend using Earol olive oil drops for about 3-5 days twice a day. This allows the ear wax to soften up and it will be easier for the audiologist to remove the ear wax.

If earwax is not removed on the same day, is there an extra cost for coming out again?

99% of the time the ear wax is removed on the same day. In some cases, we will have to come back again to remove the ear wax. There will be no extra charge.

How do you take payment?

You can pay by cash or card payment with no extra fee.

How can I clean my ears?

We recommend not cleaning your ears using cotton buds or any other objects as this will cause pain and may block your ears if you have ear wax. Ear wax is a natural substance that is supposed to be in your ears and will naturally come out by itself. If you have excess ear wax, you should see an ear wax removal specialist.

Do you charge a fee if there is no ear wax?

Yes, if there is no ear wax, there is a consultation fee of £30.
